Fire and Explosion Terrorism Evidence Analysis Lab
View the lab structure in 3D
Analyzes fire debris and evidence collected from explosions and terror-related cases to determine chemical agents.
Infrared Spectroscopy
micro FT-IR

Equipment Overview
- Analyze the organic components of a sample by irradiating the sample with infrared light and obtaining an infrared spectrum.
- Equipped with a microscope for analyzing microscopic samples from tens to hundreds of micrometers
Areas of application
- Analysis of trace evidence and trace evidence components and mapping
- Analysis of banknotes, document components, identification of accident vehicles through paint analysis, analysis of microfibers in vehicles, explosives analysis, fingerprint analysis
- Personal identification/drug analysis through hair component analysis
Scanning electron microscope energy dispersive spectrometer
SEM-EDS

Equipment Overview
- Scanning an electron beam onto a sample to identify surface structure and analyze at a magnification of 100,000 times or more
- Identifying the microscopic surface structure and chemical structure of the sample and analyzing the inorganic elements of the microscopic sample using EDS
Areas of application
- Trace analysis, fire and explosion cause analysis, trace analysis, structural component analysis
- Measurement of ultra-fine samples using high-magnification image analysis of 100,000x or more
- GSR analysis (Pb, Ba, Sb element analysis and morphological analysis)
Micro X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer
micro XRF

Equipment Overview
- Non-destructive qualitative and quantitative analysis of each element in a sample by irradiating a specific area of a micro sample with X-rays.
- A microscope is attached to enable analysis of various parts of a sample and image data can be created by component through mapping.
Areas of application
- Forensic Trace Weapon Element Analysis
- Analysis of elemental content in unknown samples
- Determination of authenticity of precious metals through analysis of gold purity, plating thickness, etc.
Portable Raman Spectrometer

Equipment Overview
- Analyze solid/liquid samples in a non-invasive manner to analyze the composition of substances based on library data of approximately 14,000 species
- Lightweight, dedicated probe enables non-contact analysis of evidence where access to a portable Raman spectrometer is limited
Areas of application
- Non-destructive analysis of various evidences present at the scene, such as illegal drugs, explosives, controlled substances, flammable substances, and soil, is possible without preprocessing.
